Patriot Gen Francis Marion ordered Capt Peter Youngblood to pursue Loyalist Col Daniel McGirth's Loyalist who were plundering settlements and killed an old man named Cheeesboro, a member of the Round O company of Capt Youngblood. The second day, Youngblood stopped to forage when British Dragoons appeared. Youngblood met the British charge but in wheeling his line broke causing his men to flee.
