British Col Welbore Doyle raided Francis Marion's secret camp on Snow Island in the Lynches river. Doyle crossed the river burning the ferry so Marion went five miles upstream to ford. He caught up to Doyle in Willow Grove who crossed to the opposite side of Big Branch Creek. The two forces exchange fire across the creek. during the night Doyle withdrew and returned to Camden. Marion had a smaller force so he abandoned the chase.
