The people vote on whether to accept the draft constitution or not. Australia was the first nation to take a proposed constitution to the people for approval. Deakin was a founding father of the Federation, along with Edmund Barton. Deakin was a lawyer who had another string to his bow in journalism. He wrote anonymous newspaper articles about federal politics for many years even while prime minister.
