1 mar 1065 año aC - Davids flight
from Saul's
court
Descripción:
1 Sam 18
David's demise in the eyes of Saul came after he slew Goliath. (ch 17)
The people praised David more than Saul, bruising Saul's ego, (18/8) and he henceforth stopped David from returning to his family. (18/2)
Next, David and Jonathan grew closer, like 'brothers' and Saul perceived a threat to his lineage on the throne. (18/8-9)
Then, as David was playing the harp (16/6; 18/10) "Saul ... began to rave inside the palace" and threw a javelin at David to kill him but David evaded the attack on two occasions (18/11).
Saul now perceived that Yahweh had left him and was now supporting David (18/12; 18/28) so Saul appointed David as a Captain over "a thousand men" hoping to have him killed in battle as David was now to lead the troops.
He also set David various 'tests' of valour in order for David to take Saul's daughter Michal to wife. (18/20-27)
Finally, Saul gave direct instructions to Jonathan 'and all his servants' to kill David. Jonathan informed David of the raised risk until Saul had another go with the javelin (19/10) but David escaped and left the presence of Saul entirely, aided and abetted by his wife Michal (19/12-18)
David first goes to Ramah where he met up with Samuel (19/18) who then accompanies him to his dwellings (Naioth).
It is proposed that David could well have penned Ps 59 about this time in his life.
David continues his flight down to Gath where the king, Achish, essentially threatens him to the point where David feigns madness and escapes from the region seeking refuge in the cave of Adullam, in the Judean Hills. (22/1) It overlooked the Elah Valley to the north and gave David an early warning of any potential threat.
