Fort Rigley was attacked twice by the Dakota. The Fort was a training center for Civil War volunteers. Fort Rigley soon became one of the few military forts to survive a direct assault. The forts 280 civilians held out until reinforcements arrived and ended the battle.Añadido al timeline:
