Descripción:

The Chicago Freedom Movement had consisted of rallies, protests, marches, boycotts and other forms of non-violent direct action. It was targeted at the segregated housing, education, income, employment and health disparities that were discriminatory and had not provided with equal opportunities. Black people were neglected and the Chicago Freedom Movement was an act that was to influence change in the segregation between black and white people. This movement was also called the Chicago Open Housing Movement and by 1966, Martin Luther King had joined the movement and soon led a march near Marquette Park in a white neighbourhood. 30 people were injured including King who was hit in the head by a brick. By August 26th, 1966, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley agreed to build public housing in predominantly white areas and have mortgages open to everyone regardless of race.
