This was the single -bloodiest day battle of the Civil War. It ended with a stalemate and a retreat by General Lee, giving the Union a major victory. Nearly 22, 717 died during this battle, and even though Lincoln ordered General McClellan to destroy the Confederate army, he let Lee retreat, and thus he was fired.Añadido al timeline:
