Food is low for the Dakota. Land is being taken away. Annuties are late. They are running out of ways to live. They want to go to war with the U.S goverment. So four young Dakota men shot 5 settlers. That triggered it. There are started to be battles against fur traders and settlers. There were series of attacks of Dakota killing settlers and other white men. Then the U.S army steped in.
