In 1970, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was established. This agency was established to keep track of all US weather and climate forecasting, management of marine fisheries and mammals, monitoring and archiving of ocean and atmospheric data, and further research and development of all of those areas.

This event was significant because for the past few years, the NOAA has proven to be a great resource to the United States as it still is in place today. The data collected from the NOAA is critical for everyday life, scientific discovery, and the future of the ocean/atmosphere.
