Alexander the Great conquered Ancient Egypt in 332 BCE which was the end of that era. Alexander gained control of Egypt after defeating the Persian King Darius. Alexander the Great and the Greeks were seen as the liberators of Egypt. The Egyptians liked him because he respected their culture and religion, therefore honouring him by naming him "master of the universe". He established the city of Alexandria and put in place a Greek government. In 331 BCE he left to continue conquering the Persian Empire, but never came back to Egypt as he died in 323 BCE.
