Italian Prime Minister and leader of the Christian Democrats, Aldo Moro, was allegedly kidnapped by the Italian far left terrorist group "The Red Brigades." He was subject to a trial by the "people's court" while in captivity, and was eventually killed. This is probably the moment of fever pitch in the Euroterrorism movement, where the head of government of a liberal democracy was extrajudicially killed by terrorists. Aldo Moro's death had deep consequences on the Italian left, with the Communist Party becoming increasingly isolated even after taking a firm stance against the incident.
