Nat Turner was an African-American slave preacher in Virginia who led the bloodiest slave rebellion in American history. He believed God used nature to give him a sign that the time had come. His action set off a massacre of up to 200 Black people and a new wave of oppressive legislation prohibiting the education, movement, and assembly of enslaved people.
