One of the worst legislations to be passed in Congress. Approved by President Franklin Pierce, the Kansas-Nebraska Act repealed the Missouri Compromise, created two new territories, and allowed for popular sovereignty
Divided the union more.

They split.
Northern Whigs joined anti-slavery Republican party
Southern Whigs joined American party and later consititutional union party
