1 jun 1964 año - The MFDP

Descripción:

In 1964, CORE, SNCC, the NAACP, and other civil rights groups launched a project known as Freedom Summer. During Freedom Summer, Mississippi civil rights activists launched a political party known as the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, which spent three years working to gain political power for African American Mississippians. At the 1964 Democratic National Convention, they pressured the Democratic leadership to seat their delegates instead of those chosen by the all-white Mississippi Democratic Party. They were denied, but still campaigned for President Johnson because of his support the Civil Rights movement.
