*Again, just an estimated time slot like the scientific revolution
The Enlightenment was a time in the 1600s and 1700s when the explosion of printing and spread of new scientific ideas led many thinkers during to apply scientific thought to other areas of study, such as philosophy and political science. Salons, or events where wealthy families hosted philosophers to talk about their ideas, became popular, as did coffee houses, which were places less wealthy people would go to talk about those same ideas.
One enlightened thinker was John Locke, a political philosopher who believed that absolutism, the idea that monarchs should have complete authority over their subjects, was not conducive to creating an optimal society. He developed the idea of natural rights: liberties that all humans share and have a right to simply because they are human. Two other thinkers were Montesquieu, who developed the idea of separation of powers, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who did not believe that monarchs were needed for government to function.
With this enlightenment thought came the idea that religion was not necessary for daily life, nor correct in its teachings. This led many enlightenment thinkers to become deists (they believed that God created the universe but didn't interfere with day-to-day life) or outright atheists, although the latter was usually frowned upon.
