After millions of rubles and countless hours, on October 4th, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik, the first ever satellite to orbit Earth. This event is significant because it created a view in the United States’ eyes that the USSR was more technology advance which eventually led to the Space Race and the creation of NASA.
