August 1st, 1927 - December 7th, 1949

After being severely weakened by Japan in the Sino-Japanese war, China fell into civil war between a nationalist group called the Chinese Nationalist Party (CNP) and an anti-capitalist Communist group called the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Eventually, the CCP took control of much of mainland China and forced the CNP to flee to Taiwan. This event is significant as China would go on to become a powerful Communist nation and intervene in many Cold War events.
