Descripción:

- in 1883, Ida Wells was asked to leave first-class ladies car and move to overcrowded smoking car althouth she had a ticket
- she reefused and was removed from the train
- sued Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad company in 1884 -> court decided in her favor -> railroad company had to pay damages
- in 1885, case was taken to Tennessee Supreme Court -> decided in favor of railroad company, reversing earlier decision
