This occupation lasted until 1952. US forces, under the command of General MacArthur arrested nearly 1,100 Japanese and put them on trial. In the Philippines, China, and in other Asian battlegrounds, additional Japanese officials were tried for atrocities against civilians or prisoners of war.
Significance - Reshaped Japan’s economy by introducing free-market practices that led to a remarkable economic recovery. Japanese government began to transform and rebuild.
