This is important to World War II due to a few key reasons, first being obviously the unification of a new extremely powerful state who absolutely defied the balance of power in Europe.

The second main reason is the loss of Alsace - Lorraine for France, absolutely humiliated that they had lost a region who had been french for over a century, structuring French Revanchism and hostility towards The German Empire.
