The petition of rights was a response to the concern that Charles could not be trusted to rule by the written constitution for MPs like Edward coke Charles's actions in the past years such as 1625 two 1628 had shown his power needed to be restricted and this required some written definitions to the accent unwritten constitution there were four main points
-parliament had to consent to taxation so Charles couldn't just make up a tax hike when he pleased
-people could be imprisoned only if justice was shown fairness Again this was an attack on Charles as he could no longer just arrest anyone he wanted
-the imposition of material laws on the population was illegal
-the imposition of billeting on the population was illegal
Charles accepted the petition on June seven 1628 under the threat of further parliamentary funds for his foreign policy war also Charles signed this because of the underlying sorrows he felt for Buckingham
