4 feb 1945 año - Yalta Conference
Descripción:
Important Persons Involved: Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin were involved in the Yalta Conference.
What it Was: The Yalta Conference was the meeting of the Big Three (Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin) to discuss the postwar reorganization of Germany and Europe. It was held from February 4-11, 1945 in Yalta, a resort in southern Ukraine on the Black Sea. Roosevelt focused on Stalin's commitment to enter the war against Japan and the three leaders agreed to divide Germany into four administrative zones. Each zone would be controlled by one of the four Allied powers. The leaders also agreed to replace the League of Nations with a new organization, the United Nations. The organization would include a General Assembly that represented all nations and a Security Council.
Significance to the Cold War: The Yalta Conference divided Germany into military zones, which set the stage for future conflict. At the conference, Stalin also pledged to hold free elections. He later broke this agreement, which created more tension in the Cold War.
