The Jay Treaty facilitated ten years of peaceful trade between the US and Britain. The Northwest Territory remains contentious despite belonging to Britain by the Treaty of Paris 1783. The US were granted limited rights to trade with British colonies in the Caribbean in exchange for some limits on the American export of cotton.
