The attack on Pearl Harbour was a surprise military operation carried out by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service on the naval installation of Honolulu's Pearl Harbour. Before 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 7, 1941. The United States was a neutral country at the time of the attack, which resulted in its entry into WW2 the next day.

The strike was intended to be a deterrent. Its goal was to keep the United States Pacific Fleet from interfering with its planned military operations in Southeast Asia. Over the span of seven hours, Japan launched coordinated attacks on the United States-held Philippines, Guam, and Wake islands, as well as the British Empire in Malaya, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
