Throughout the war the U.S. tried its best to stay neutral because it wasn't their fight, even after German subs began to prey on any and every ship that came in their path due to their unrestricted submarine warfare. Shortly after, the U.S. broke diplomatic relations with Germany, but still stayed out of the war. However, reading the contents of the Zimmerman Telegram over a year later, was a wake up call the Germany had it out for the U.S. and Woodrow Wilson decided it was time to take action, so he declared war on Germany, allying with Britain and France. The changed the course of the war significantly, as it gave Britain and France new soldiers, munnitions, and hope
