21 feb 1916 año - Battle of Verdun

Descripción:

The Battle of Verdun was the longest and one of the bloodiest battles of WWI. It began as Germany believed the French was Britain's greatest "weapon" of the war and decided to create a point of attack where they hoped France and Britain would give every man they had to fight it. They chose Verdun because it was a threat to German communication lines. The battle lasted 10 months and resulted in 700,000 casualties between the two armies with around 300,000 deaths and the French coming out on top. Significant to the war because it resulted in governments controlling their people with more of an iron fist, and stopped Germany from destroying the strong arm of Britain.
