The Dawes Severity Act of 1887 was used to dissolve many tribal organizations and attempted to assimilate or “americanize” natives. This included assigning 160 acres of land to a native family which interrupted their nomadic way of life. Dawes Act was significant in that it further oppressed natives and therefore opened the way for more Americans to move West.Añadido al timeline:
