13 jul 1966 año - Miranda v Arizona
Descripción:
Ernesto Miranda was arrested in his house and brought to the police station where he wrote a confession to the crimes. The Officers admitted that they didn't inform Miranda of his right to a lawyer in court. The Arizona court found Miranda guilty saying that his right wasn't violated because he didn't request a lawyer.
The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that the Arizona courts ruling violated the 5th Amendment and they made it mandatory for police officers to warn the defendants that they have the right to a lawyer and the right to remain silent. These are called "Miranda Rights".
Amendment in question: 5th
