The Election of 1860 was the election President Lincoln was elected. Lincoln was considered a republican though he believed in "Free Soil," that slavery should not be abolished, but also shouldn't move to the west. He received no votes from slave states, yet the northern free states still had enough votes to help him win the election. Just forty days after the election, South Carolina seceded from the union.Añadido al timeline:
