5 feb 1939 año - German Invasion of France
Descripción:
After the brutal capitulation from the Dutch and the constant attacks in Belgium by the Germans, the French are going to soon experience the true might of the German military planning.
On 12 February, the German Armies are sweeping through eastern Belgium and had sent forward engineers into the Ardennes forest to construct a series of river crossings and secure various vital positions to allow the German Armoured divisions to pass through the region.
Under the belief that the Ardennes was effectively implementable and impassable for armoured vehicles, the French had nearly abandoned the position and left only two underequipped brigades with little artillery support to secure it in case of German infantry advancements.
The French were therefore taken by surprise when a full German armoured column punched through the forest with full areal cover and seized the towns of Sedan, Revin and Mezieres by the 5th of February.
The French armoured divisions were distracted in the Belgian town of Hannut while suffering massive tactical losses and having a significant number of French tanks captured by the Germans.
