The Gestapo was formed on the 26th of April 1933 and it acted as the secret police for the Nazi regime. The force was created by Hermann Goring, but was later passed on to the SS leader Heinrich Himmler a year later. The Gestapo played a key role in the Nazi plan as they essentially took over the role of the police. They often held offices in concentration camps.
