The Election of 1860 was when Abraham Lincoln was elected for presidency. Lincoln was a "free soiler" who didn't believe in slavery anywhere else. He didn't care about it being in the South. After Lincoln was elected, this caused South Carolina to hold a convention where the Articles of Secession where South Carolina is no longer with the Union because they don't feel that their rights will be protected.
