Hitler already turned his back on his close friend, Stalin and Hitler attempted to advance into Stalin's most important and symbolic territory, Stalingrad. The Soviets were determined to defend the city. The German troops did end up making it into the city, but the fight was not over for Stalin. Germany used many resources and men during this invasion which was not worth the outcome. The winter also played a huge role in the performance of their military. The Soviet victory was a memorable moment in the war because Hitler was beyond embarrassed ; Stalin gained more confidence in his military.
