Riled but undeterred, Albert and Mila married on the 23rd of June 1942 in Salzburg, spending their honeymoon at Albert’s fairytale, childhood home, Burg Mauterndorf. Notably absent from the festive occasion was big brother Hermann. He may have defended the couple against Heydrich, but he would never accept the union. As Albert later noted: “He did not even give me a present for the wedding, and neither for the baptism of my little daughter.”[128]
