Around 1500, Alpha Company and lead elements of D Company (who had accompanied the A Company at the perimeter in the area of the creek bed) were attacked by the NVA.

After the attack on the Alpha and Delta Companies, Capt. Edwards directs Sgt. Gonzales to position D Company on C Company’s flank, extending the perimeter to cover the southeast side of LZ X-Ray. The last of the 1st battalion arrives and Lt. Larry Litton assumes command of D Company.
