The attack on Fort Sumter began the Civil War by South Carolina having already succeeded from the Union and Governor Francis Pickens having to do something about the Federal troops that were occupying the fort across the harbor. The Southern troops laid siege on the Fort and the Federal general Anderson was forced to leave the Fort and this notably becoming the first conflict of the Civil War. This would lead to many more conflicts between the Confederate and Union armies resulting in a very bloody and gruesome Civil War.
