- Rebellion which was triggered by the arrest of NCM protestors in Kerala --> landlords were Hindu --> communal riots
- The grievances center around lack of security of tenure, high rents, renewable fees, and other oppressive exactions

- The British had to deploy the military to suppress the revolt
- Wagon Tragedy ----> the death of protestors due to suffocation while transferred in train led to anger among Pan India
