The battle begins February 19 1945-March 26. 1945. This is the first battle that took place on Japanese soil. The U.S had a goal and that goal was to "leave" with three of Japan's air fields on Iwo Jima. Despite the tough fight-that resulted in extreme casualties on both sides- the U.S accomplished their mission.
