Moses Fleetwood Walker, also known as "Fleet," grew up in Steubenville, Ohio and is known to be the first African American person to play major league baseball. He played a professional catcher for the Toledo Blue Stockings during the 1884 season, which competed with the National League. This is important to history because many more African American people have followed in his steps today.
