In September, the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization was created. It was an international organization for the defense of Southeast Asia. The goal was to prevent communism from spreading any further into Asia. The organization was made up of the United States, France, Great Britain, New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Pakistan.
