The United States Office of War Information was a branch of government created to spread information relevant to the United State's position in the war. They ended up spreading a ton of propaganda and stopped operating in September 1945. One piece of this propaganda was Rosie the Riveter, a fictional character representing women who took over men jobs while they were at war.
