I believe the the Peace of Westphalia was the most important event of this century. This is because it practically ended the Holy Roman Empire by reducing the emperor to a simple figurehead. It also gave way to religious freedoms in part of europe for the first time. Lastly The Peace of Westphalia also started the phase of Europe with secular governments creating a more productive and modern society.
