In 1603, Tokugwa Ieyasu founds Edo (now known as Japan’s capital city Tokyo). • Tokugawa Ieyasu was a member of the council of five. he forced Hideyoshi's son into battle (he was not supposed to). the son committed suicide in Osaka castle. Ieyasu won many military victories in 1600 - three years later declared himself new shogun. In 1603 he set up his own shogunate named Edo (which became the Japanese capital city of Tokyo). He developed Edo and it became the biggest city in the world 100 years later.
