In 1156, disagreement within the imperial family and the Fujiwara Regent’s house split the nobility into two factions, both of these factions enlisting warriors from the Minamoto and the Taira. It was not a big conflict as the outcome was determined in a single night's fighting. However, it clearly displayed the inability of the courtiers to settle major differences without the reliance of the power of the warriors.
