16 mar 1274 año - Summa Theologica

Descripción:

Aquinas developed "new modus vivendi between faith and philosophy" that dominated Christian thinking until "the rise of the new physics" (Ralph McInerny, "Saint Thomas Aquinas").

Russell criticizes Thomas Aquians for not being a real philosopher because "Before he begins to philosophize, he already knows the truth; it is declared in the Catholic faith. If he can find apparently rational arguments for some parts of the faith, so much the better; if he cannot, he need only fall back on revelation."
Russell is really criticizing (pious) skepticism. Thomas does not see philosophy as a path to truth but is a model-agnostic of sorts, and that's what bugs Russell, that he wouldn't commit to the process, to the conclusion, that he isn't a dogmatist! (A researcher remakred that Russell himself, ironically, spend a large work trying to prove that 1+1 = 2 ...)
