the police had been trying to get information out of sophie and felix but had gotten nowhere, so they entered the waltens' house to see if they could find anything they missed. the house smelled terrible and they couldn't find anything that led to any further information. apparently, some of the wallpaper had been torn to shreds and the only thing left in jack's office was a pack of cigarettes. rumors about the walten family had been spreading for years at this point.

sophie couldn't tell the police anything as she had already forgotten most of the details; felix didn't say a single thing about the case and had to get his license revoked for driving drunk again
