30 mar 1867 año - United States Purchases Alaska From Russia

Descripción:

In the 1800s, the Alaskan Peninsular was under the control of the Russian-American Company, and home to around 700 Russians. As well as these trading settlements, hundreds of native people also inhabited the land, particularly the Aleuts and the Tlingits.

Over the years, it became clear that the Russian colonies in Alaska were producing little profits in the fur trade, and the government was fearful that the land would fall into British hands. These factors eventually lead Russia to sell all of their North American assets to the United States in March 1867.

Alaska initially fell under the control of the U.S. Army, but would eventually be made an official state many years later.
