October 6th, 1939 is the date when Poland surrendered to Germany and the Soviet Union. Germany took West Poland, while the Soviets took the East. This is important, because it was the first time "Blitzkrieg was used.
Hitler wanted Poland for "Lebensraum," or living space for Germans. The Nazis wanted the "racially superior" Germans to colonize the Eastern lands, and for the Slavs to be enslaved
