Thomas Jefferson was the 3rd president of the United States and went into office following John Adams. He was the first president to be inaugurated in Washington D.C. Jefferson was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and the main writer of the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson wanted to limit the power of the central government and give more power to local governments and the people. He was also very significant because of his oversight of the Louisiana Purchase.
