After his major role in the burning of רמב׳׳ם’s works in Paris in 1233, רבינו יונה regretted how he took his role too far and used שערי תשובה to express this guilt through writing about the process of תשובה, specifically for that event.

About the Author: רבינו יונה was lived during the 13th century. While his cousin, the רמב׳׳ן, reconciled the works of the רמב׳׳ם, it was רבינו יונה who instigated the public burning of the רמב׳׳ם’s books in Paris in 1233. After realizing how his actions caused a negative extreme, many of the works רבינו יונה authored after that focus on emphasizing repentance.
